Bad news: Fares on Muni busses and trains will be going up to $2.25 on September 1. Bright side: You don't have to carry extra quarters around if you just get yourself a Clipper card, which you hopefully already own if you ride Muni.
Mission Local had originally reported back in April that the increase would only apply to cash fares and not those deducted from Clipper Cards, a la FastTrak tolls at certain times, but that's not actually what's coming to pass. All fares are going up by a quarter, and monthly passes are going up $2, from $66 to $68.
Also, Muni + BART passes go up from $76 to $80.
Muni needs the money, you see, and Supervisor Scott Wiener has been working to fix that in part through a City Charter amendment that would tie Muni funding to population growth. That charter amendment will be on the ballot in November.
Muni suggests that everyone that has AutoLoad set up for their Clipper Cards may want to log in now to change those and make sure your "Autoload funding source has sufficient balance or credit available to cover the Muni fare increases."
