The weirdest, wildest art show of the year is happening this Saturday, July 19, at SOMArts — and organizers say it's definitely going to sell out.
In its fourth year, the Night Light Multimedia Garden Party transforms SOMArts (934 Brannan Street) into a glowing art festival with installations covering nearly every inch of the indoor and outdoor space.
This year includes digital and cinematic projections by 40 artists and seven live, audiovisual performances like pop songs from a dystopian future and electronic music set in a desert landscape (no, not like Burning Man). So what exactly should you expect? At last year's event, I walked around in a daze, half the time unsure of what I was seeing, but completely mesmerized by it all. Oh yeah, and there's alcohol.
Get your tickets here. If you miss it, which is sad because it only happens once a year, some of the pieces will remain at SOMArts for its Projected Personae show, which runs July 22 to August 16.
