Don't miss a free simulcast of SF Opera's La Traviata on Saturday, July 5 at AT&T Park at 8 p.m. Go register here. It's going to be an outstanding new cast, headlined by husband-and-wife tenor Stephen Costello and soprano Ailyn Perez to play the doomed lovers Violeta and Alfredo. They sat down with SFist to talk about their new roles and working together as a married couple.

Both Costello and Perez are up and coming opera stars. Both won the prestigious Tucker Award given to the best American singers poised on the edge of a major international career, and Perez even paid her dues at the Merola Program here in San Francisco back in 2005. And both have performed on the SF Opera stage before, Perez doing the same role of Violeta she'll sing on Saturday and Stephen last for Moby Dick, the new opera by Jake Heggie for whom he created the role of Greenhorn.
