Last week at the Giants’ Native American Heritage Night, two attendees got into an alleged altercation with white men wearing a headdress and were detained by the San Francisco Police Department. Now, a group has formed to protest what it calls “assault” by the SFPD at an in-person and online gathering scheduled for tomorrow’s Giants' Social Media Night game.

The Facebook event reads: “To shine a light on the recent assault on June 23, 2014 of Kimball Bighorse and April Negrette by SFPD for a disagreement with a fan over cultural misappropriation of a Headdress on Native American Heritage Night at a SF Giants game.” The protest calls for people to meet outside AT&T Park at 6:30 p.m. on July 1 and tweet using the hashtags #NotAllCops, #IndianRemovalAct2014, and #RespectNativeCulture.

SFPD spokesman Albie Esparza told SFist on June 25 that while the two fans in question were detained, they were released by the end of the game and no one involved wanted to press charges.

In the video below, you can watch two SFPD officers escorting Negrette out of the game as she yells about trying to get a man to “take his headdress off.”
