San Francisco's Sutro Baths burned to the ground under questionable circumstances back on June 26, 1966, but it wasn't until yesterday that the Western Neighborhoods Project put this footage online, reports the Richmond SF blog.

According to the WNC, the 8mm footage of the blaze was shot by Joel Springer, who "chased and filmed many San Francisco fires."

If you want to learn more about Sutro Baths, I can't recommend the book, Sutro's Glass Palace: The Story of Sutro Baths, enough. Released just this February, it's been described as "The ultimate Sutro Baths history." It's worth it for the photos alone!
