This year's fourth annual Hard French Hearts Los Homos party, which happens on Sunday after the big Pride parade at Mezzanine, is dedicated to "Los Idolos," a half dozen icons of recent queer history and the present who represent a swath of the Hard French aesthetic. There's Jackie Shane, the androgynous 60s soul singer who came out of Toronto and had a flamboyant, effeminate stage persona despite always wearing suits. There's Pedro Almodovar, the flamboyant Spanish filmmaker who inspired that brilliant tribute film that Hard French used to promote their Winter Ball last year. And there's Grace Jones, Freddy Mercury, Mexican singer Juan Gabriel, and famed burlesque performer and dancer Josephine Baker.
This little video is their promo for the Pride party, featuring a song by Shane ("Any Other Way"), and local performers impersonating the six icons, including Miss Rahni as Jackie Shane.
Tickets are on sale for the party on Sunday, June 29. They're $20, and you can also reserve 6- and 10-person party booths for a VIP experience upstairs.
The fun goes from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m.
