CBS5/KPIX is reporting 27-year-old Sean Moylan of Novato became the latest person to commit suicide from the Golden Gate Bridge. Although suicides are not generally reported in the media, this one is notable because Moylan's grandfather John Moylan was a former director with the Golden Gate Bridge Transit District and a supporter of the plan to install a suicide barrier on the landmark.

The connection was made by Erika Brooks, whose own daughter jumped to her death from the bridge in 2008. Around that same time John Moylan was serving on the transit district and argued in favor of the barrier, despite the costs associated with it.

The Bridge District is expected to meet on June 27th to hear the official recommendation for the $50 million project that has been in the works for nearly six years.

In 2013, the Golden Gate Bridge saw a record number of suicides. The district is expected to approve the project, which will be funded by Caltrans and the regional Metropolitan Transportation Commission, as well as toll revenue.
