Pioneering Bay Area artist Mike Henderson isn't just a painter, though you can see his show, Traces of Places, until July 3 at Haines Gallery. He's also an award-winning filmmaker, who shot a number of experimental films in the 1970s and 80s. And tonight you can see them on the big screen!

The Films of Mike Henderson, a "selection of 16 millimeter prints that attest to Henderson's groundbreaking work in the medium," is curated by Henderson and Mark Toscano of the Academy Film Archive.

Immediately following the screening, audience members will be treated to a performance, from the Mike Henderson Blues Band. Because, oh yeah, Henderson's an accomplished blues musician, too.

Watch this 2007 interview with Henderson to whet your palate, then head to the Exploratorium tonight for this free event.
