Part of the 280 will close starting tonight at 9 p.m. so that Caltrans crews can "install a new hinge making the roadway stronger in case of an earthquake." The southbound stretch between the King Street on-ramp and the on-ramp at Cesar Chavez will remain shuttered for the duration of your Memorial Day Weekend. Plan accordingly.

This will hit Giants fans the hardest, at least those who have tickets this weekend. KTVU has more: "One big challenge will be getting word out to the thousands of baseball fans expected to attend a weekend series between the San Francisco Giants and the Minnesota Twins. It will also impact access to the Giants-Cubs game on Memorial Day."

Anyway, Caltrans plans on reopening I-280 southbound by 5 a.m. on Tuesday, probably earlier as they usually do. Plan accordingly.
