Friday morning around 6:30 a.m. a fire broke out on the 100 block of Bright Street in Oceanview, near the edge of Daly City. The blaze damaged four houses, eventually gutting two homes of them. Two residents and one firefighter had to be taken to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.
Around 90 firefighters were called to the scene after the third alarm was ordered. Fire Chief Joanne Hayes-White told the Chronicle that crews had a hard time fighting the blaze due to limited visibility from both the smoke and the early morning fog.
According to the Red Cross, 21 adults and one child were displaced. The blaze also disrupted Muni service on the M-Oceanview line this morning. Although the cause of the fire is still under investigation, a downstairs neighbor in the home where the fire started said he woke up this morning to the sound of an argument before smoke started coming into his apartment from above. Two of the injured people are believed to be the owners of the home who lived in the upstairs apartment.
