Thursday night at the California Academy of Sciences, the noted scientific institution hosted their annual Big Bang Gala — their largest After Dark event of the year. It's a nerd prom of sorts. A gala for types who are more into STEM than stemware.

The museum was bathed in a visible spectrum of light. Sound waves pounded through the atrium dance floor. Radios transmitted a silent disco through the African Hall and there was a noteworthy lack of Google Glass. (Although more than few dads caught Instagramming.) Potential make-out sessions on the living roof were mostly rained out by last night's precipitation and people searching for a ride had to double- and triple- check their Uber driver's name before heading home. But everyone—literally everyone—made sure to get the most bang for their ticket price with the mountains of free candy on the way out. For a 21+ event, there really was a ton of candy.

Here are some scenes from last night's Big Bang.
