Just before 10 a.m. Wednesday morning, San Francisco fire fighters responded to a call of a one-alarm fire in a two-story housing project on Brookdale Avenue in Sunnydale.

The fire was under control in less than half an hour, but fire fighters searching the home found a mother in her 30s dead inside a bathroom. Her young son was found inside a bedroom and taken to a nearby hospital where he later succumbed to injuries.

According to witnesses, at least one survivor made it out by jumping out a window to safety. Aerial footage of the building showed a hole in the roof.
