On Tuesday just before 1 p.m., a man in his 40s who had just shoplifted lobsters and steak was seen entering a red or burgundy sedan in the parking lot of a Safeway at 4100 Redwood Road in Oakland, near Highway 13, wielding a knife. It's a confusing story, but an Amber Alert was issued (some of you may have gotten it on your phone if you haven't turned those notifications off) because a 13-year-old girl was in the car along with an older African American man, and according to the Tribune, neither of them appeared to know the suspect.

Complicating things further, initial reports linked the license plate on the vehicle to an Infinity SUV, but it turned out that that vehicle is now on the East Coast, meaning that the plates on the burgundy sedan were likely stolen.

People should be on the lookout for the sedan bearing California license plate number 6JFM648. The suspect is described as 5 feet 7 inches tall with salt and pepper hair, and he was seen wearing headphones, a baseball cap, and a green shirt at the time of the carjacking and kidnapping.

The vehicle was last seen headed south on Redwood Road, but police can not confirm whether the car got on Highway 13.

Below, the surveillance footage of the suspect, from Safeway.
