It's the very end of 2013, and if you've got a bucket list from last New Year's you're still working on, go ahead and don't take a cue from whoever drove an out-of-state rental car on a dangerous chase through the city last night. We don't think it's as fun as it sounds.

At around 9pm last night, officers in Bayview attempted to pull over a black Dodge Challenger with Nevada plates because of apparent contraband or weapons, according to police Officer Gordon Shyy. The driver of the vehicle proceeded to lead police offers in a wild chase on Highway 280 and through the Bayview, Ingleside, Taraval, and Park police districts. Along the way, the vehicle caused multiple collisions with other cars and struck a police officer at 19th Avenue and Taraval.

Another officer, believing “the suspect was attempting to cause serious bodily injury to him and the another officer,” discharged his firearm but missed the suspect, who continued toward the Upper Haight. The chase ended near Waller and Stanyan streets when the car jumped the curb and crashed into a concrete barrier inside a cul-de-sac, whereupon the suspect led police on a brief foot chase before being taken into custody.

The police officer struck by the suspect has been released from the hospital.
