We're hearing reports of a shooting early this evening somewhere near 22nd and De Haro. The gunfire erupted around 6:55 p.m. after a fight broke out on the 19-Polk line.
One Muni passenger, who will remain anonymous, describes the scene:
"I was on that bus, lying flat on the floor in a pile of people. The shots were fired on the sidewalk outside the bus, after a brawl which started on the bus was pushed out the back door. Many people were screaming for the bus driver to leave the scene because it was clear to us the active shooter was off the bus. The delay felt interminable, but I suspect the driver was following some protocol. I don't believe anyone on the bus was injured, but I can't say for sure. I can say that some people who were involved in the start of the fight were laughing in their seats once the bus started to move. I ran home covering my head once I was permitted to exit at 23rd & Rhode Island. I hate this. I often choose the 19 over the 10 as a safer alternative to get home, but we are never really assured of our safety I guess."
Another anonymous eyewitness, who saw the shooting from outside the bus, says:
"I saw it from across the street. Scary! We were in our car and saw everyone on the bus hit the floor after they heard the shots. Saw one bigger African American guy who I thought was the bus driver walk up 22nd Street. Then when the bus drove off I went inside and locked the doors!"
No word yet on injuries or arrests. SFist will update as soon as we know more.
