The nation has waited with bated breath, and the results are in: a strain of weed called Lemon Skunk has taken the gold at the 10th Annual Emerald Cup, the only outdoor organic marijuana contest in the world.
Over five thousand people reportedly attended this weekend's competition, held at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds, where 130 entrants from the Emerald Triangle and another 130 from around California competed to earn what appears to be the coveted rainbow bong of victory (and, of course, an all-expense paid weeklong trip to Jamaica). The winning grower has DNA Genetics, which beat out Cherry Cola from the Sonoma County Collective and Mean Gene's Cherry Limeade (a cross between Jigga's Girl Scout Cookies and Black Lime) to take the highest honor.
Third-generation Mendocino growers Boo Boo Bubble dominated the hash category for their OG and Girl Scout Cookies bubble hash, which tested at 67% THC (is that a lot? That sounds like a lot). Among the other festivities were a closing concert by Jefferson Starship and an onstage wedding of Prop 215 icon Dennis Peron and partner John Entwhistle, which was officiated by J Tony Serra.
