Early last Thursday morning a man was struck while walking on the side of the road on Valencia Street. The victim, who was taken to San Francisco General in critical condition, later died from his injuries. He was identified as local artist and painter Kurt Dalen.

According to police, Dalen was walking in the street on Valencia near Clinton Park around 2:45 a.m. when he was struck by a black or blue four-door sedan. The car did not stop but continued south on Valencia Street. A friend of Dalen's told SFist, Dalen had left a nearby bar and was trying to hail a cab when he was hit in the street.

Dalen, who went by the name "Vote" in street art circles, was a graduate of the San Francisco Art Institute and an accomplished painter. Tributes to Dalen have popped up on Valencia Street and back in 2009, Kurt's brother Lee Dalen interviewed him for a short, if somewhat awkward, documentary about his work:
