Around 6 a.m. Friday morning a Recology garbage truck struck a woman walking on the eastbound section of Interstate 80 near Seventh Street in SoMa. She was taken to San Francisco General Hospital to be treated for major injuries.

Although there were reports that the woman died from her injuries, NBC Bay Area reports the woman is showing "signs of life." Her name has not been released and it was not immediately clear what she was doing on the freeway.

CHP closed the onramps for north and southbound Highway 101 and eastbound I-80 near the approach to the Bay Bridge, blocking early morning traffic for at least an hour. The eastbound lanes re-opened around 7 a.m. this morning.
