A 32-year-old man was struck multiple times and killed while trying to cross Interstate 80 in Richmond early this morning. His car had collided with the center median and he was attempted to cross to the right shoulder.

The man has been identified as Nathaniel Robinson Sr., and as the Oakland Tribune reports, the incident happened at 12:32 a.m. in the westbound lanes near Solano Avenue in Richmond.

Robinson's Buick had collided with the center median wall and for unknown reasons he got out of the car and was trying to cross the freeway from the number one lane to the right shoulder when he was hit by several vehicles, the CHP said.

He was found in the number four lane and pronounced dead at the scene.

CHP Officer Daniel Hill said two of the drivers who hit Robinson remained at the scene and gave statements to officers but others continued on.
