After a technical glitch jacked up BART shortly after midnight, service has resumed. Trains are running now at about half capacity, but BART hopes to get service running normally by 8:30. Also, freeways are a mess. Brace yourselves, Bay Area, for a nasty Friday commute.

The Chronicle reports:

The lapse in service has also caused traffic congestion on roads across the region, with major backups reported on the Bay Bridge and on westbound Interstate 580. Highway 24 was backed up to the Caldecott Tunnel.

Extra ferries are running between San Francisco and the East Bay, and Caltrain has boosted commuter rail service on the Peninsula.

And the glitch that caused all the fuss, according to SF Appeal, was "a communication problem between the transit agency’s central control computer systems and track switches," which resulted in delaying 19 trains "with between 500-1000 passengers shortly after midnight Friday morning."

Which is to say, no telecommuting for you today. Alas.
