Damon Bruce, host of KNBR's afternoon sports show in S.F., went on a lengthy rant this week about what he sees as the scourge of femininity creeping into the world of sports broadcasting. And/or sports writing.
True to most rants of an offensive/conservative nature, he's not quoting a lot of specific examples or making a particularly convincing argument to anybody but his own macho, lady-hating ilk. The rant seems to be inspired in part by the alleged bullying scandal regarding Miami Dolphins Richie Incognito and Jonathan Martin, but Bruce takes the opportunity to rail against all the sensitivity and namby-pambyism that he sees creeping into HIS SANDBOX, i.e. the world of sports journalism.
A lot of sports has lost its way, and I'm gonna tell you, part of the reason is because we've got women giving us directions. For some of you, this is going to come across as very misogynistic. I don't care, because I'm very right....
You see, I'm willing to share my sandbox as long as you're willing to remember: You're in my box.

Every single time somebody goes down with an injury, god forbid a gruesome injury, watch the way women react to it on Twitter... Injuries happen. All of this happens all the time. ... Hey if any of this gets too gruesome for you, go write a restaurant column. Go write a housekeeping column. Get out of the world of sports.

I enjoy many of the women's contributions to the sports—well that's a lie [lauging]. I can't even pretend that's true. There are very few—a small handful—of women who are any good at this at all. That's the truth. The amount of women talking in sports to the amount of women who have something to say is one of the most disproportionate ratios I've ever seen in my life. But here's a message for all of them...All of this, all of this world of sports, especially the sport of football, has a setting. It's set to men.
Yeah, wow. What an asshole. We don't know if he's married but we pity the poor woman if he is.
