Just after midnight Sunday night/early Monday morning, a man in a motorized wheelchair was struck and killed by a car at the intersection of Market Street and Octavia Boulevard.
The victim's name has not been released, but he was reportedly crossing Octavia Boulevard in the crosswalk on the Highway 101-onramp side at the time of the incident. Photos from the scene show the wheelchair pushed several yards up onto the onramp. The victim died at San Francisco General Hospital.
Police are still investigating the incident and the driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with authorities.
The Chronicle points out that the city just recently started monitoring the dangerous intersection with camera enforcement, although it is currently unclear whether the driver made any illegal turns or if he was caught by camera surveillance.
