The cyclist who was killed during rush hour on Friday morning near Division and Bryant has been identified as 78-year-old Cheng Jin Lai. Lai was struck by the 27-Bryant at 8:40 Friday morning, and pronounced dead at the scene.
It remains unclear who may have been at fault but many commenters noted on SFist Friday that this is a dicey area for cyclists where the bike lane comes to an abrupt end on Bryant.
Lai was struck as the bus was turning right onto Bryant from 11th Street, and witnesses say that it appeared he was hit by the right side of the bus.
Muni has been quick to point out that this is only the second fatality involving a cyclist and a Muni bus since 2010.
Be careful out there, cyclists!
