As days get shorter, we daydream in fluorescent-lit offices of music festivals and moments at the beach. This weekend you can have a little more summer on tap from Mollusk Jamboree, a two-day music festival organized by Mollusk and (((folkYEAH!))) at Fernwood Resort in Big Sur. Picnic in an open field surrounded by redwoods while listening to live music by Vetiver, Beachwood Sparks, Little Wings, and more. As night falls surf films will adorn the forest walls, and Fernwood Tavern will come alive with late-night gigs and impromptu jam sessions. Snuggle into your sleeping bag under the stars to rest up for more music, surf, and summer.
Staying true to the laidback surf vibe, stage hopping and strategic planning are not required to see all your favorite bands. Music starts at the main stage on Friday at three o’clock and Saturday at noon, and the Tavern will host late-night gigs. Check out the Mollusk Jamboree mix tape to wet your whistle. Jay Nelson’s site-specific tree house will transport the Mollusk Surf Shop vibe to the redwoods.
When asked what instigated this year’s event, Josh Farrell, the director of operations at Mollusk Surf Shop, said, “it just makes sense to combine all the things we love and share it with all the great people that have supported us.” It turns out that some of these “great people” are famous surfers like Kassia Meador, Alex Knost, and Ashley Lloyd.
According to Farrell, "This is our first Jamboree but hopefully not our last." Tickets are still available for this inaugural event that could become a summer’s end tradition.
The festival happens on Friday, September 27 and Saturday, September 28.
