Today Apple will unleash new iPhones, a new version of iOS, and possibly more at the company's headquarters in Cupertino, Calif. at 10 a.m. PT. What can you expect? Probably not a larger iPhone, sadly, but you will see an upgrade to the 5 (a 5S, presumably). A new color, "champagne," might be added to the black and white library of iPhone hues.
All Things D also points to the possibility of an alleged "Touch ID" feature, which is a fingerprint sensor. Nice.
A cheaper plastic iPhone, rumored to be called the iPhone 5C, which would come in a number of bright colors like lime, yellow, and salmon, seems likely. The invitation itself hints at what's already been leaked.
And the folks at Apple will also give us a release date for iOS 7, which powers the iPhone, iPod, and iPad. Hopefully, the new OS won't be a complete drain on your iPhone 5, 4S, or existing iPads, but get ready to upgrade if you're one of those types who just can't resist.
Will there be any game changers unveiled this time around? Who knows! Anything is possible (except, again, for a larger iPhone). We shall see. SFist will update throughout the morning as Apple rolls out shiny new products.
UPDATE: Macworld's live blog reports that the new iOS 7 will feature, among other things, "a new high-quality female voice and new high-quality male voice, and it will be available free on September 18 for for iPhone 4 and later, iPad 2 and later, and fifth-generation iPod touch.
UPDATE II: "iPhone 5C is beautifully, unapologetically plastic. Multiple parts have been reduced to a single polycarbonate component whose surface is continuous," says Apple. Will start out at $99.
UPDATE III: New iPhone 5S will come with Touch ID, which uses your fingerprint as identification. Cue the conspiracy theorists.
UPDATE IV: Elvis Costello performs, concluding the big announcement.
