Oakland: Father, 20, And Son, 1, Fatally Shot While Sleeping

While a 20-year-old father and his 1-year-old son, Drew Jackson, slept inside a bedroom of a Brookfield Village home Wednesday night, someone entered the backyard and fired into the house. Both father and baby were killed.

The all-too-familiar shooting happened at about 2:45 a.m. in the 400 block of Ghormley Avenue. The father died at the scene, the boy later died at a nearby children's hospital. "The father was reportedly visiting from Fresno and sleeping in the same room as his son at the time of the shooting," according to KTVU.

Police have no motive for the shooting. No arrests have been made. Oakland Tribune notes, "There was possibly more than one shooter."

Family members were at the home early Wednesday, but, according to NBC Bay Area, did not want to speak to the press. "One relative, however, was overheard saying that this killing was 'intentional.' "

This is not the first child killed in Oakland this year inside a home. A month ago, if you recall, an 8-year-old was shot and killed at a sleepover inside an apartment in the Dimond District.
