The SFPD went speeding after a suspect vehicle on 101 last night which took them across the bridge to Berkeley Aquatic Park, where the suspect tried to ditch his car in the water and make a swim for it.

It seemed like a reasonable enough plan, maybe, but no one swims as fast as they can run, and the suspect was quickly arrested around 11:30 p.m. last night.

The pursuit began at 10:50 p.m. Tuesday on northbound 101 near Mission Street, and the solo suspect in a Range Rover took the SFPD and CHP for a ride to the East Bay, where he took the Shellmound exist on 80 and took surface streets into Berkeley, and to the Aquatic Park.

There's no word on who this suspect is or what he's suspected of, and the investigation is still ongoing.

Update: It turns out the suspect, identified as Mick Lee, got into a late-night, rage-fueled dispute with one of his neighbors in the Castro district. KTVU reports that Lee bashed in his neighbor's door with a hammer before hopping in his recently purchased Range Rover and heading to the freeway. He stopped at the Chevron at 6th and Harrison where he got into a confrontation with a homeless man who asked him for money, who subsequently slashed one of his tires, further enraging him. He then tried to get the Chevron station to pay him for his tire, and then drove his damaged car into the front of the station before speeding off. And by the time he plowed into the pond, he had two flat tires from a police spike-strip in a roadway. Wow. Rage-y.
