This is odd. While responding to a call regarding an armed robbery, Oakland police shot a teen who, it seems, had nothing to do with the robbery. While not seriously injured, the teen, around 15-16 years of age, was hit on the chin with a bullet.

After a woman reported being robbed at knifepoint by three men outside Le Cheval, cops were called around 9:50 p.m. to investigate on the 1000 block of Clay Street. While questioning possible suspects -- described as "black men, ages 22-26" -- a teen, unrelated to the crime, allegedly "issued the threat." So an officer fired at him.

Oakland Tribune has more:

One officer said that as they were questioning possible witnesses, a teen on Jefferson issued the threat, and the officer fired a single shot, [Oakland Police Chief Howard] Jordan said.

There were two other teens at the scene, but they were not hit. The teenager who was hit suffered a grazing wound to the lower right jaw, Jordan said. All three teens are from Oakland.

Jordan said no weapons were found on any of the teenagers and they were not involved in the earlier armed robbery.

Oakland police are conducting an internal investigation into the incident. Anyone with information about the aforementioned robbery should call the fuzz at 510-238-3821.
