Jeremy Irons revealed something shocking last night during an interview with HuffPo Live. Namely, that some thespians, no matter how acclaimed, shouldn't think and speak at the same time. More to the point, when asked about DOMA and the SCOTUS, Irons claims that same-sex marriage could "debase" marriage.

When asked about gay marriage, Irons fumbled, "I don't know. It's a very interesting one, that. And I don't really have a strong feeling ... It seems to me that now they're fighting for the name and I worry that it means somehow we debase, or we change, what marriage is. I just worry about that."

But wait, it gets better. The award-winning actor then went on to connect a vague line between homosexuality and incest, wondering, "Could a father not marry his son?"

NY Mag reports:

Presented with the fact that incest laws cover that part, Irons argued, "It's not incest between men. Incest is there to protect us from inbreeding, but men don't breed, so incest wouldn't cover that." He continues on with this hypothetical, immune to reason.

"Living with another animal, whether it be a husband or a dog, is great," said Irons, without really diving into the bestiality argument that usually comes next, thankfully. "It's lovely to have someone to love. I don't think sex matters at all. What it's called doesn't matter at all."
