What's a dosa? More than just a local duo of Indian joints with fancy cocktails, a dosa is savory crepe and a staple of south Indian cuisine (and, yes, Dosa's menus). Dosa Hunt, meanwhile, is a short film about one man and six of New York's musical luminaries as they seek out the best dosa in New York City. And you should go see it tomorrow night.

Dreamed up by Stereogum.com Executive Editor Amrit Singh after a tweet from Vampire Weekend's Rostam Batmanglij about a "fusion" dosa with arugula and jack cheese revealed the Persian keyboardist needed a lesson in proper dosa dining, the film is "The Greatest Hunt For South Indian Food In NYC Ever Committed To Film!"

"It's about the food," Singh tells SFist via email, "but the food becomes the device via which we talk about stuff like culture, art, family, and being brown." Called "sharply funny" by New York Magazine and "part No Reservations, part Big Brother, part something smarter with lots of laughs, something to learn and an amazing soundtrack" by Interview, the 23-minute comedic documentary follows Singh and hungry brown musician pals Ashok Kondabolu and Himanshu Suri of Das Racist, Vijay Iyer of the Vijay Iyer Trio, Anand Wilder of Yeasayer, as well as honorary brown dudes Batmanglij and Alan Palomo of Neon Indian. (Persian and Mexican, respectively.)

As part of the Center for Asian American Media's CAAMfest, the film's West Coast debut at San Francisco's Asian Art Museum will realize Singh's vision for an ideal screening: Expect two kinds of dosa (one from a truck, one inside Café Asia), and a post-screening set by Heems and Dapwell of Das Racist — performing for the first time since their December break up as Indian Bastards from Hell. While you're at it, you can stick around and check out the museum's Terracotta Warriors exhibit.
