A 21-year-old male was killed in the Bayview this morning around 8:20 a.m. near Third and Palou. Police arrested a 22-year-old suspect who was seen fleeing the scene on foot, and they recovered a possible murder weapon stashed in the wheel well of a nearby car.
The incident interrupted bus and Muni service during this morning's commute, and the area of Third Street near Palou remained closed throughout the a.m. hours.
The victim has not yet been identified.
This marked San Francisco's 7th homicide of 2013, meaning that, if things continue at this rate, we are looking at a less violent year overall than the last two. The homicide totals for the past few years are as follows: 48 in 2010, 50 in 2011, and 64 in 2012. See the Appeal's current homicide map here, and last year's here.
Meanwhile, sadly, they are up to 16 in Oakland, with the shooting death of an 18-year-old in West Oakland on Sunday morning.
