Speaking of fools, San Francisco's favorite drunk driving man of God, archbishop Salvatore Cordileone, told an English Catholic newspaper that legalizing same-sex marriage is akin to male breastfeeding.
In part of an interview with Catholicherald.co.uk, Cordileone spews:
Archbishop Cordileone cautions against over-using the term “gay marriage”, advising that it should be used “only sparingly” because it is a natural impossibility and if we keep talking about gay marriage we might fool ourselves into thinking it is an authentic reality, which only needs government approval to make it legitimate. He compares it with another impossibility: “Legislating for the right for people of the same sex to marry is like legalising male breastfeeding.”
This brings up many questions. Such as: What? Is male breastfeeding even illegal? (It's not impossible; though the baby would probably starve.) And finally, why is Cordileone hellbent on destroying marriage equality?
Far more worrisome, Salvatore went on to claim that fighting gay people's right to marry is a gift from God, saying, “Fighting for marriage is our way of loving God, and the struggle is the particular gift that God has given our generation."
Cordileone has been a controversial figure ever since he arrived in San Francisco. In August of 2012, with his own mother as his passenger, the city's new archbishop was arrested for driving drunk in San Diego. And during Cordileone's installment, Marc Andrus, an Episcopal Bishop of California noteworthy for his public anti-Prop 8 stance, was forced to sit in the basement at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Cathedral during the ceremony.
