Yet again this week we find Vallejo making headlines for an odd and upsetting crime. Dennis Stanworth, 70, a registered sex offender who was paroled from a life sentence for the assault and murder of two teenage girls, killed his 89-year-old mother yesterday in the home they shared.

This all happened on the 2500 block of Marshfield Road in Vallejo, where police arrived Wednesday just before noon after Stanworth called them himself. He said he had killed his mother and directed them to another room where they found the body of Nellie Turner Stanworth.

Stanworth served decades in prison for kidnapping, sexually assaulting, and shooting two girls, ages 14 and 15, in Contra Costa County in 1966. He was originally sentenced to death, but his sentence was later reduced to life in prison. It's unclear how long ago he was paroled.
