Proving that there are very few life choices that can be considered a political liability in San Francisco, Supervisor David Campos has hired former Lusty Lady performer and activist Stephany Ashley as his new legislative aide. According to Mission Local, Ashley will be taking over for longtime Campos staffer Hillary Ronen, who is on maternity leave, and plans to tackle the pro-life protesters at the Mission Planned Parenthood clinic, the opening of an LGBT homeless shelter, and violence prevention during her six-month term.

A UC Santa Cruz graduate, Ashley turned her experiences dancing at the peep show into a career as an advocate for sex workers, most recently as the program director for St. James Infirmary, which provides HIV prevention and harm-reduction services for those who engage in sex work. She's also a past president and current board member of the Harvey Milk LGBT Democratic Club, and worked on Rafael Mandelman's 2010 campaign for District 8 Supervisor. Her initial exposure to the "nitty gritty of city politics" came while fighting Gavin Newsom's cuts to the Coalition to Save Public Health. Apparently city politics are far grittier than we ever imagined.
