SFPD is once again asking for the public's help in identifying a Muni troublemaker today. The suspect pictured here is wanted for pepper spraying a hearing-impaired foreign exchange student and attempting to steal his backpack on an inbound 38-Geary bus last month.
The attempted robbery and bus-peppering incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. on October 20th. The unidentified suspect in the photo apparently approached the 24-year-old victim, shot him with the pepper spray and then tried to wrestle his backpack from him. The tough (and probably burning, mucus-y) victim managed to hold on to his belongings, and the two men tried to flee instead. One suspect, 24-year-old Raheem Muhammad of Oakland, was apprehended by cops near the scene of the crime, but the second suspect is still at large.
The picture above was taken by the Muni surveillance camera just before the incident went down. The suspect is described as a black man in his 20s, roughly 6-foot-1, weighing 150 pounds and wearing a brown sport coat and brown pants. Anyone who might have recognized the spicy mugger should call SFPD's Muni task force at (415) 832-8338 or use the anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444 or via text message to TIP411.
Note: Bay City News reported the photo came from security footage on the bus, although the camera angle does look suspiciously low for that. Either way, keep your eyes peeled, folks.
