A year after opening Plum in Oakland, Daniel Patterson (he of Coi) hired a new executive chef to guide the menu at his other acclaimed joint. Manfred Wrembel, who just finished a six-year stint at Top Chef Masters-royalty Chris Cosentino's Incanto as the chef de cuisine, will take charge at the East Bay restaurant. To the press release! "The California-born son of German immigrants has lived and worked in San Francisco for more than 11 years, developing and refining his skills in the kitchens of Chez Papa Mint Plaza and Jack Falstaff before settling in at Incanto."
His food is described as "California cuisine shaped by European influences" and "elegant while also simple and approachable." Mmm, approachable. Patterson, naturally, raves about Wrembel's style, saying, "I love Manfred's cooking: interesting yet accessible, generous in spirit ... He makes delicious food, and I think his style will be a perfect fit for Plum's friendly, neighborhood atmosphere."
Plum received three stars from the Chronicle and was awarded a Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2011 and 2012. You should probably go over there as soon as possible and shove as many things into your mouth as you humanly can. It's that grand.
