OK, here we go. Let's do this.

Bambi Lake, former performer with the Cockette and Angels of Light, remains a controversial figure in the local queer arts community. Which is putting it mildly. A brilliant performer when she's on, Miss Lake, though not a drag queen, used to polarize the local drag scene, especially back in the day, for a myriad of reasons but due in large part to the fact that she's an explosive force of fire, vocals, and heels. (Justin Vivian Bond is said to have based much of his act after her.) But having seen her live on numerous occasions, we can assure you that Miss Lake's performances are usually cathartic events and always memorable. To say the least.

The award-winning chanteuse and writer performs tonight, accompanied by Birdie-Bob Watt, at 490 Linden Street (at Laguna) starting at 8 p.m. Admission is a suggested donation of $10, with no one turned away due to lack of funds. Tonight is also Miss Lake's birthday, so be prepared for anything.
