A little before 1 a.m. today, a 21-year-old man was shot multiple times and killed in East Oakland, making it the city's 100th reported homicide of 2012. This particularly brutal shooting occurred near the intersection of Hilton and Bancroft. KRON 4 pointed out on today's broadcast that the still unidentified victim was shot 13 times.

The man was walking by himself when he was shot. He was pronounced dead at Highland Hospital.

Numbers-wise, as noted in today's Oakland Tribune, "It is the fourth time since 2008 that Oakland has recorded at least 100 homicides in a year. Of the 100 so far this year, 96 are considered murders and the other four, including a fatal police shooting, have been determined by the district attorney to be justifiable homicides." In 2011, there were a total of 110 homicides in Oakland.
