As you know, the Golden State Warriors will return to San Francisco in time for the 2017-2018 season. Today, the architecture team of Snøhetta and AECOM — part of the team responsible for the SFMOMA expansion — released the first look at their proposed plan to transform the southern stretch of the Embarcadero on Piers 30-32.

From what we can glean from the Warriors arena planning site, the new arena will reach 135 feet in height (AT&T Park is 185 feet by comparison), and will seat 17,500 inside the venue itself. The surrounding pier, which will get a sizable reinforcement job before the new arena goes up, will include 333,000 square feet of open space — no less than 50% of the total square footage of the pier. Judging by the renderings above, that will include an open-air amphitheater, a "bay cinema," and even boat launch from which to embark on your McCovey Cove-bound kayaking trip.

Of course, all of this could change as these proposed designs go through the various local and state agency approval processes, not to mention the inevitable chance for the public to weigh in on which features and shadows they don't like.
