An armed suspect and an accomplice broke into a home on the 900 block of Haight Street near Divisadero around 4 a.m. this morning. During the break-in, one of the home's four residents reportedly tried to stop suspect who was carrying a handgun, but the suspect punched him in the head several times and made off with a laptop and a backpack.

The suspects were seen fleeing the scene with the loot in a late eighties or early nineties four-door Honda or Toyota sedan. They had not been picked up by the cops as of this morning. The victim involved in tangled with the gun-toting suspect had to be taken to a hospital to be treated for cuts to his head, but he is expected to be OK.

There's been something of an increase in thefts around Divisadero in the past few months. Although the most recent reports have involved opportunistic phone thieves. Back in May Haighteration also noted a bump in car break-ins and home burglaries in the neighborhood, including one "hot prowl" robbery in which one cat burglar scaled the front of a building to break in through a home's living room window.

If anyone happened to spot the import sedan with the two thieves eyeballing their freshly stolen laptop, please do call SFPD's anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444 or via text message to TIP411.

Update: Haighteration has a frightening account from one of the residents who was in a bedroom when the robbers tried to break the door in. She describes the suspects as "two hispanic men." Still no word on how they broke in or whether it was a targeted break-in, but there's a meeting on safety in the neighborhood next Wednesday, September 26th. Stay safe and alert, folks.
