A 43-year-old man was killed near Byron Airport on Saturday while skydiving and "attempting a maneuver prior to landing," AFTER pulling his chute. Details are few, but the man was from American Canyon, and apparently did not have enough altitude to do whatever he was trying to do.

The Chronicle reports:

Brown, known to his friends as "Donny," was an avid skydiver who was particularly adept at "freeflying," a skydiving discipline in which enthusiasts maneuver their bodies so that they fly through the air and not merely fall.

Friends said Brown was attempting a "swooping" landing in which a skydiver deploys his canopy and accelerates toward the ground before leveling off and touching down.
