Early Sunday morning around 3:30 a.m. a 24-year-old victim was shot in the foot after an armed suspect apparently did not like the response he got when he asked the victim where he was from. After the victim told the suspect he was not a member of a gang, he tried to make a run for it, but was shot in the foot.

The victim was transported to SF General to be treated for the gunshot wound, and he told police that he spotted an older-model blue Buick leaving the scene. No arrests have been made yet. Recently, the "are you in a gang?" question has ended in stabbings near Civic Center and the Outer Mission, but this is the first report we've gotten of a shooting.

Late last year, the plaza at 16th and Mission also played host to five other shootings during three separate occasions: one involving a melee that left three injured and another incident where a man was shot in the foot and a third incident where a man was randomly shot in the thigh.

Anyone who might have spotted the blue Buick, or have any other information in the Sunday morning shooting is encouraged to call SFPD's anonymous tipline at (415) 575-4444 or via text message to TIP411.
