An instance of alleged domestic violence occurred between a Sheriff's Deputy and a paramour, this time involving Lt. Vincent Calvarese, one of the city's openly gay cops who was featured in the 2009 documentary The Butch Factor. Calvarese was arrested at Gold's Gym in the Castro last Thursday for assault and false imprisonment.
SF Weekly reports:
"Lieutenant Vincent Calvarese was arrested Thursday evening at the 2301 Market Street gym. District Attorney spokeswoman Stephanie Ong Stillman categorized the incident as a domestic violence case. The purported victim was someone Calvarese 'knew and had some sort of relationship with,' added Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Susan Fahey."
If found guilty, Calvarese would face inter-department disciplinary action, and not a public hearing, since he's not an elected official. Calvarese's former boss, elected Sheriff (?) Ross Mirkarimi, also stood accused of domestic violence against his wide, Eliana Lopez. Mirkarimi accepted a plea deal, pleading guilty to one misdemeanor count of false imprisonment. Then, they kissed in front of television cameras.
Calvarese will be arraigned on Thursday.
