The city marked its 40th homicide of 2012 last night with the shooting of a 25-year-old man near Sixth and Stevenson around 11 p.m. The man was found by arriving officers lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Further details, including the man's name, have not yet been released.

The first block of Sixth Street has now been the scene of three of this year's homicides, including 2012's first homicide, the stabbing death of onetime Intervention featured player Joseph Minozzi on January 12.

Update: The victim has been identified as Gary Smith. Two men were arrested for the shooting in Union City and booked into San Francisco County jail on Saturday. It's unclear what evidence led police to the two suspects, but one is an S.F. resident. [Chron]
