According to the City Attorney's office, those perjury accusations levied against the mayor by Ross Mirkarimi's attorneys have absolutely no bearing on the benched sheriff's official misconduct hearings. As a Deputy City Attorney wrote this week, the Mayor testified honestly before the Ethics Commission and to continue to pursue the matter would be a waste of time and effort.
The City Attorney's office also ruled that at least one of the potential witnesses requested by Mirkarimi's legal team — appointed D5 supervisor replacement Christina Olague — should not be called to testify because she will be involved in the final decision on the case. The Board of Supervisors, remember, will vote on the sheriff's job once the Ethics Commission gives their recommendation regarding whether or not to remove him. Mayor Lee, meanwhile, also implied that the move to attack his credibility was simply a diversionary tactic that was taking the focus off of the case at hand.
