A 20-year-old man with an apparently enviable pair of sneakers was mugged at gunpoint in the Tenderloin early Monday morning. The victim was walking on Leavenworth near the infamous heroin-selling Tenderloin deli at Turk Street around 5:30 a.m. Monday, when he was approached by two gun-toting suspects who demanded he hand over his shoes.

After handing over the footwear, the victim fled — running for several blocks in his sock feet before realizing he'd been shot in the arm. After flagging down a passing car, presumably with his good arm, the victim was taken to S.F. General to be treated for the gunshot wound which was not considered life-threatening. No arrests have been made in the incident and the victim didn't offer much in the way of a suspect description either.

SFPD isn't revealing what brand of shoe caused such a ruckus, citing the pending investigation, but there's been quite some commotion around those Nike Air Yeezy 2s recently. (Not that SFist would ever imply Kanye's sneakers had anything to do with a Tenderloin mugging.) Also, maybe now would be a good time for San Francisco to look in to starting our very own guns for shoes exchange.

Anyhow, those with knowledge of the incident, or maybe just sneaker culture in general can call SFPD's anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444 or via text message to TIP411.
