After nearly a year of nail-biting anticipation for Hi Lo Club, formerly known as KoKo Cocktails, to reopen at Polk and Pine (1423 Polk Street), the bar officially — and very quietly — opened its doors tonight. A couple of SFist's sources stopped in for a cocktail this evening and were told that the one person who had been holding out on signing the paperwork finally conceded.
The owners had been teasing their fans in recent weeks with photos detailing the progress of the bar's remodel on Facebook. One of the owners is a woodworker and installed reclaimed pine from Marin along the bar and tin ceiling tiles imported from New York. They reportedly had to strip three layers of flooring, including a layer of linoleum tiles, before installing the beautiful new hardwood.
The Hi Lo folks were hesitant to spread the word about the bar's opening so soon because they're afraid they're not yet ready for the undoubtedly large masses of patrons yearning for delectable yet affordable artisan cocktails. So be easy on them this weekend, guys. Be sure to leave hefty tips and order somewhat uncomplicated drinks.
