Girl About Town is all about California dreaming this week. Inspired by the hottest star we know, the Sun. We love sitting in the sun listening to good tunes. We think the cover of the new Best Coast record gives us the perfect visual for this week's shows...

Naytronix, May 17th, The Hemlock Tavern

tUnE-yArDs bassist Nate Brenner fresh off the heels of a tUnE-yArDs tour and is now back with his experimental pop project, Naytronix. Is he half robot? Is this the future? Timeless funk and sinister post-apocalyptic dance colonies are phrases used to describe this project. Naytronix, you had me at robot.

Best Coast
, May 19th, Fox Theater, Oakland

We're pretty sure "Boyfriend" by Best Coast was our song of summer in 2011. It's been a little over a year since they played at Noise Pop. Now that summer is around the corner, it's only fitting that Best Coast are back with a new record (listen here).

Dita Von Teese
"Burlesque: Strip Strip Hooray", May 21st & May 22nd, Fillmore

The queen of burlesque has landed. "Burlesque: Strip Strip Hooray" is a 90-minute revue starring the gorgeous Dita Von Teese and her favorite burlesque acts.

Dum Dum Girls, May 21st, Blank Club, San Jose & May 22nd, Slims

If we could be in an all-girl gang, we'd choose the Dum Dum Girls. Think the Ramones meet the Ronnettes. Their charming cover of the Smiths' "There Is A Light And It Never Goes Out" instantly won us over.

Death Grips cancel tour

You know that feeling of elation, when you have a new favorite song and you find out that the band is playing soon? We've just experienced the reverse with Sacramento's own Death Grips. They announced a tour a week ago and have just announced that they are canceling the tour so they can rush back into the recording studio to make their second album of 2012. We're thinking longer show when they do go out on the road. YEAH!

Jean Paul Gaultier, The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk, now - August 19th, De Young Museum

We recently made our first visit to the Jean Paul Gaultier exhibit at the De Young. We're pretty sure we'll be making a few more trips before the exhibit ends on August 19th. There are so many fabulous details to marvel over... Of course, we're most familiar with his Madonna cone bras that were used in her videos and tours. He has been the creative force behind wardrobe for so many artists...Nirvana, Depeche Mode, Cameo. We have Jean Paul Gaultier to thank for Cameo's trademark red codpiece. WORD UP!
