Around 3:15 a.m. Sunday morning, a 23-year-old man was shot in Potrero Hill after the car he was riding in dropped off a friend near the Potrero Hill Playground. The driver attempted pull a U-turn and leave the area after hearing shots fired, but the victim in the backseat was struck by a bullet when the shooter open fire again.

The victim was driven to a nearby hospital, but as the Examiner reports today, he sadly succumbed to his injuries Tuesday morning. The shooting brings the city's homicide rate to 20 for the year.

Police are still investigating the incident. As of this morning they have yet to make any arrests or release suspect information. Still, anyone with any information in Sunday's incident is encouraged to call SFPD's anonymous tipline at (415) 575-4444 or via text message to TIP411.
