After a day of shutting down traffic in the Mission some members of Occupy SF have returned to 888 Turk Street, which the group occupied in protest on April 1st. Although the occupation inside appears to be mostly peaceful at the moment, things have turned tone masked protester on the roof of another nearby building is currently antagonizing the scores of police currently stationed in the area.
According to KTVU's live feed, a protester on the roof of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, directly behind the building at 888 Turk, threw a brick, metal pipes and other object in the direction of the police vehicles below. The brick landed at the feet of a line of cops stationed outside 888 Turk and one projectile reportedly hit a fellow protester and a police cruiser. KTVU confirms one Occupier in front of 888 Turk was seen bleeding as he was taken away from the scene by EMTs.
Sources report multiple arrests have already occurred. One of the arrested was believed to be the suspect from the roof of St. Paul's. As we've seen, Occupy members were quick to disavow the masked protester's actions.
KTVU also reports that SFPD are in contact with the Archdiocese of San Francisco, the owners of the building, awaiting for permission to clear the building. Livestreamer PunkBoyInSF, still on the scene, believes there may be as many as 70 occupiers currently inside 888 Turk.
Update, 6:35 p.m.: The Weekly confirms the rooftop brick-hurler has been arrested and charged with felony aggravated assault. SFPD Chief Greg Suhr explained, "We are aware that they are stockpiling bricks and pipes... This is criminal conduct. This is not First Amendment demonstration."
The protester who was hit with a brick earlier identified himself as a member of the Occupy movement. He reportedly declined medical attention.
Update, 8:05 p.m.: At least one source is reporting SFPD have backed off at 888 Turk Street.
